Objectives

To advance community education, training, life-long learning and the development of individual capabilities, competencies, skills and understanding in relation to canine welfare, training and knowledge through the provision of training.

To advance community development through the provision of training.

To reduce discrimination in relation to Assistance Dogs through the provision of training.

To relieve disability through the provision of training relating to Assistance Dogs.

To advance animal welfare through the provision of training relating to canine welfare.

Dog courses

We plan to offer the following training courses to dogs:

  • Assistance Dog tasks

  • Competition agility

  • Landlord assurance

  • Competition heelwork

  • Competition obedience

  • Assistance Dog

This is in addition to training courses currently available:

These training courses will primarily be available on our online learning system Moodle, however PAWtected trainers/assessors may offer these face to face. These training courses do not provide any assessment or certificate of completion. Please see our qualification activities summary for details regarding the certificate options for these courses.

1:1 dog training

We offer 1:1 training within our memberships. This is done virtually through an online journal. A weekly summary of training is uploaded then a trainer responds with relevant help. We also use the SMART goal structure in order to offer more customised training help. Click here

Human courses

We plan to offer the following courses to humans:

  • Assistance Dog Awareness (assessment of premises)

  • Essential Canine Welfare

  • Essential Canine Training

  • Essential Canine Care

We plan the following training towards our roles:

  • Workshop volunteer

Youth series (coming soon)

The youth series will be built up as follows:

  • Pearl

  • Bronze

  • Silver

  • Gold

  • Platinum

  • Diamond

Each level will consist of different courses including handling, training, care and competition. Courses will have age restrictions. The youth series may also be used for adults with complex additional needs.
